The Big Umbrella Project - New York
'The Big Umbrella' is twice as big (240 x 160 cm) as the biggest men's umbrella found on the consumer market and can shield 16 people from the rain. It was was constructed by professionals under Mir's direction, using typical umbrella industry materials, so to look like and function like a real umbrella. Mir travelled and posed with it outdoors in the rain in several cities around the world and photographs were taken of the occasion.
The New York City shoot was a collaboration with Chris Verene, on commission from the PS1 where it was exhibited in October 2004.
